So You Think You Can Dance UK S02E01

Episode 01 - Auditions 1 (26/03/2011)..

Join Cat Deeley and judges Nigel Lythgoe, Arlene Phillips, Louise Redknapp and Sisco Gomez in their latest search for Britain's favourite dancer.

The journey begins with the first round of auditions, as dancers from all over the UK bring their best moves to London, hoping to impress the judges and claim the 50,000 pounds cash prize, plus a chance to dance in Hollywood.

Hoping to win a golden ticket are a phenomenal tap talent, an incredible mother and daughter who bring the carnival vibe, and a partially-deaf girl who dances by feeling the bass vibrate through her body.

The BBC’s So You Think You Can Dance is the search to find the UK’s favourite dancer.

Over the last few months, the BBC has travelled the country in search of dancing talent.

Seven girls and seven boys made it through the auditions to be selected for the live shows. One of these 14 will be crowned the winner of So You Think You Can Dance and win the prize of £100,000 and the opportunity to dance in Hollywood in the US version of So You Think You Can Dance.

HOW SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE WILL WORK

The live shows for So You Think You Can Dance will begin on 9th January 2010 and run on BBC One each Saturday for a total of 6 weeks.

There will be a live main show followed by a live results show.

For the first two shows the dancers will be paired up by the Production Team, at their discretion, based on height and dancing ability.

From show three onwards, each week the dancers will swap dancing partners amongst them. Partners will be selected via a random draw. The draw will be independently verified.

For the Final only, competitors will be partnered with dancers from previous shows in the series.

After each couple have performed, they will receive comments from our judges: Nigel Lythgoe, Arlene Phillips, Louise Redknapp and Sisco Gomez. The BBC may invite a fifth judge at its discretion for any of the shows. The dancers will not receive scores from the judges.

Each week, the couples will perform a different style of dance, for example Broadway, Hip Hop, Contemporary, Pop, Ballroom. Each style will be selected via a random draw.

Throughout the competition, as well as performing in couples, our contestants will also perform solos and in group numbers.

After all couples have performed, telephone lines will be announced open and viewers will have the opportunity to vote as follows:

One of the UK's most respected TV talents, Nigel Lythgoe has spent the last few years in the USA, where he's been Head Judge on the American version of So You Think You Can Dance.

Nigel began his career as a dancer. Later, he became a choreographer for "The Young Generation" and "The Nigel Lythgoe Dancers" dance troupes, going on to choreograph over 500 TV shows for Shirley Bassey, the Muppets, and even the Royal Variety Performance. During the 1980s and 1990s, Lythgoe worked as Head of Entertainment and Comedy at London Weekend Television, where he commissioned and produced legendary TV shows including Gladiators and Blind Date.

In 2000, Nigel became a household name as a tough-but-fair judge on the TV series Popstars, rapidly earning himself the nickname "Nasty Nigel". He also produced Pop Idol in the UK and American Idol in the States.

In 2002, Nigel co-created a new dance series called So You Think You Can Dance (currently in its 8th series) and after six successful series in the USA, Nigel brought the show to the UK last year.

“This season we’re going to be expecting greater things from the dancers. All four of us are going to be tougher as judges. This could easily be a life-changing experience for some of the dancers on the show.”

Joining Nigel Lythgoe on the judges' panel is award–winning choreographer Arlene Phillips. No one knows more about dance and her work spans a range of musical, stage and screen credits. Phillips is a hugely successful jazz and musical theatre choreographer, having worked on some of the most successful musicals in West End and Broadway history and a number of successful films (such as Annie, Monty Python's The Meaning of Life and Legend). Most recently, she choreographed Andrew Lloyd Webber's production of 'The Wizard of Oz', which is currently enjoying a run at the London Palladium.

Phillips first became a household name in the UK as the director and choreographer of Hot Gossip, a risqué dance troupe which she formed in 1974. Hot Gossip were a regular fixture on The Kenny Everett Video Show and even had a chart hit with their song I Lost My Heart to a Starship Trooper (lead vocals provided by Sarah Brightman).

Arlene Phillips was awarded an OBE in 2001 for her services to Dance. She was, of course, a regular panellist for six series of Strictly Come Dancing.

Arlene agrees with Nigel that this series will demand more of the contestants: "The world of dance is full of invention and I want a dancer to come along and show me something I've never seen before. I want to be excited by the dance talent - if they can impress this old bird, then I know everyone else is going to be impressed!"

Louise was part of the mid 90's girl band phenomenon Eternal, before embarking on a highly successful solo career. Louise's warm bubbly nature endears her to male and female audiences alike and in 2004 she achieved the accolade of being named FHM's sexiest woman of the decade.

After launching her solo music career, Louise set off on her first UK tour, playing at over 20 sell out venues across the country including Wembley Arena. Pushing the boundaries and collaborating with some of the top US choreographers, Louise's dance routines were respected and well regarded as being ahead of their time.

In 2010, Louise became permanent co-host of the BBC2 cookery show Something for the Weekend.

"As a judge, you have to be honest. The general public isn't stupid and they can tell when someone is not up to standard. What I love about this programme is that it brings dance to the front and makes a star out of the dancer."

Sisco Gomez was born in London in 1985, and comes from a Latino heritage. Following in the footsteps of his dancer mother, he began to perform at the age of 11, attending the Westminster Dance Scene, the Sylvia Young Theatre School and Pineapple Performing Arts School.

In 2001 he joined the Hip Hop company Culture Shock, and later went to Los Angeles, New York and various countries around Europe to master different styles of Hip Hop & Jazz Funk.

At 16 he was cast as a dancer in Zoonation's Box Beat show at the Lilian Baylis Theatre, Sadlers Wells, before touring Europe as the youngest member of Bounce - The Street Dance Sensation.

From 2003 to 2009 Sisco was Artistic Director of Dance 2xs, which trains dancers in Hip Hop, Tap, Contemporary, Locking/Popping, Jazz Funk and Musical Theatre. He has also worked commercially with artists such as Janet Jackson, Madonna, Kylie Minogue and Alexandra Burke.

"We're looking for Britain's favourite dancer so the winner has to be likeable; they have to make the public pick up the phone and vote for them. I'll be looking for personality - I don't want to see dry boots on stage". And he warns: "This year the dancers are going to be tested from all angles. They're going to get no sleep because they have to practise and perfect their routines! But it's all going to be worth it because they're going to learn so much."

Cat Deeley returns to British TV screens to host the second series of So You Think You Can Dance - a role she also fulfils in America.

Originally known as the host of SMTV: Live, double-BAFTA award-winning Cat has since carved out an enviable transatlantic career. She became Jay Leno's first regular entertainment correspondent on The Tonight Show, subsequently performing the same role for Good Morning America.

During her time presenting shows for British television, Cat interviewed Madonna, Mariah Carey, U2, Prince, Marilyn Manson, Elton John, Joss Stone, Tom Jones and 50 Cent.

In 2010, she hosted the TV coverage of the Help for Heroes concert which featured Robbie Williams and Gary Barlow in their first performance together for 15 years.

Fringe S03E18

Episode 18 - Bloodline (25/03/2011)

On the Other Side, Bolivia discovers that there are men that will stop at nothing to obtain her unborn baby, which may hold the secret to safe travel to This Side.

Fringe follows the casework of the Fringe Division, a Joint Federal Task Force supported primarily by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which includes Agent Olivia Dunham; Dr. Walter Bishop, the archetypal mad scientist; and Peter Bishop, Walter's estranged son and jack-of-all-trades. They are supported by Phillips Broyles, the force's director, and Agent Astrid Farnsworth, who assists Walter in laboratory research. The Fringe Division investigates cases relating to fringe science, ranging from transhumanist experiments gone wrong to the prospect of a destructive technological singularity to a possible collision of two parallel universes. The Fringe Division's work often intersects with advanced biotechnology developed by a company called Massive Dynamic, founded by Walter's former partner, Dr. William Bell and run by their common friend, Nina Sharp. The team is also watched silently by a group of bald, pale men who call themselves "Observers".

Season 1 introduces the Fringe Division as they investigate cases that form "the Pattern", many orchestrated by the bioterrorist organization, ZFT (Zerstörung durch Fortschritte der Technologie, or in English, Destruction through advances in technology). Olivia comes to learn she was a child test subject for Walter years ago for a nootropic drug, Cortexiphan, giving her weak psionic abilities. Walter also struggles with adjusting to normal life in Peter's care after living several years in a mental institution, and hides a secret about Peter's past from him.

In Season 2, the occurrences are found to be in conjunction with activities of a parallel universe, which is plagued by singularities occurring at weakened points of their world. The Fringe team deals with more cases that are leading to a "perfect storm" as the parallel universe appears to be at war with the prime one. Walter is forced to tell Peter that he is from the parallel universe, a replacement for his own Peter that died from a genetic disease, and that it is his prior experiments that caused the singularities in the parallel universe.[3]

Season 3 presents episodes that alternate between the two universes. "Walternate",[4] Walter's doppelgänger in the parallel universe, has set events in motion to assemble a doomsday device that reacts only to Peter's biology, sending his Olivia, "Fauxlivia", into the prime universe in Olivia's place, get close to Peter, and guide them to find the doomsday device's prime universe counterpart. Olivia, trapped in the parallel universe, is subjected to experimentation by Walternate to explore her Cortexiphan-induced abilities. She is able to escape to her own universe using her psionic abilities and expose Fauxlivia to Peter. Fauxlivia is extracted to the parallel universe, having withdrawn a critical component of the doomsday device, but soon finds she is pregnant with Peter's child. In the prime universe, Olivia and Peter resolve their relation due to Fauxlivia's involvement, while evidence of weak points in the fabric of reality start to develop.

American Idol S10E21

Episode 21 - The Third Finalist Of The Season Is Sent Home (24/03/2011)

The Top 11 results show started with "Expect the Unexpected." Stop, producers! I'm already nervous. Even if you expected the unexpected, you still would have been in for a few surprises tonight. In the spirit of Motown week, the show sure had me asking Marvin Gaye's question, "What's Goin' On?"

The judges entered the set and Steven Tyler wore a leopard print shirt once again. Wild thing!

Ryan Seacrest introduced the show by saying over 30 million votes were cast and the outcome might shock you. The last time he said that, Michael Lynche landed in ninth place and was saved. My prediction? Someone shocking will be eliminated and then saved for the first-ever Top 11 tour. I wonder if that's allowed? This would be the most brutal cut. It's never fun to have the tour be within reach and then taken away.

The Idol finalists took the stage and they looked great in black and white. Everyone looked so sleek and sophisticated. We saw footage of Jennifer Lopez's husband, Marc Anthony, mentoring the finalists on how to use the custom inner-ears designed for the contestants. It seemed to have work since Randy Jackson didn't use the adjective "pitchy" once last night!

In honor of Motown Week, the Top 11 performed together for one last time to "Ain't No Mountain High Enough." I knew it! It's like an unwritten rule that this song has to be performed on American Idol's Motown Week. Just when I thought I could predict the results show happenings, the stage doors parted and Stevie Wonder was brought out on a motorized platform. WHAT?! Stevie was just waiting in the wings unbeknownst to the audience, and no one looked more shocked than Steven Tyler, who was overcome with sheer delight. How cool for the Idol finalists, three of whom performed a Stevie Wonder song last night, to perform "Signed, Sealed, Delivered I'm Yours" with the legend! The judges were up out of their seats as Stevie sang "Happy Birthday" to Steven and some of the Season 10 Idols walked out with a cake and a portrait of Steven. I think that birthday present might be hard to top!

It was time to get down to business, and Lauren Alaina, Pia Toscano, and Scotty McCreery were called down to the stage next to Ryan. These were the first three to be revealed to the Top 13...and now these three were the first to find out they're going on tour! They jumped in celebration. This show has been nothing but a party so far tonight.

Country duo Sugarland took the stage to perform their up-beat hit "Stuck Like Glue." I loved the performance and the hints of reggae-infused country during one part of the song. Jennifer Nettles' outfit was as eclectic and vibrant as her performance.

We saw a clips package of the contestants talking about James Durbin's wrestling obsession, which included footage of James "beating up" Paul McDonald in his spare time. Pia challenged them all, and in a football hoodie and black under-eye makeup, she showed that she's more than just a balladeer. Naima, who revealed in her interview that wrestling is fake, announced the match-ups with a gold sparkly American Idol mic that apparently was just lying around the Idol house. I guess once you're on the show you don't need to use a hairbrush for at-home rehearsals any more. Back at the live show, Ryan called the two fighters, pals James and Paul, to the stage. Pop Quiz: Whose teeth are whiter, Randy Jackson's or Paul's? Ryan announced, "Both of you guys aren't safe tonight." Wow, this show was a shocker! But wait...the doors pop open and James' idol, Hulk Hogan flexed his muscles on stage and said that the good news is that James and Paul are safe and going on tour, but Ryan is not safe. Hulk delivered some fake punches, confirming Naima's comments about the validity of wrestling.

So far we were five for five in the contestants who were going on tour, so that meant 50% of the remaining finalists would be in the bottom 3. I'm a mathlete. Jacob Lusk, Thia Megia, and Stefano Langone were ready to find out their fate. Ryan told Jacob that he was safe and going on tour, and his mom and nana seemed much less enthusiastic hearing this life-changing news than they were after his performance last night. A shock to many people, Thia and Stefano were both in the bottom for their first time in the finals round of the competition.

Either Casey Abrams, Haley Reinhart, or Naima Adedapo would be in the bottom. Ryan drew out the results and said the first person safe is [long pause, and Naima floats her hand to point in the direction of Casey and Haley] Naima! She was shocked and emotional. And in another shock to many people (unless you were expecting to be shocked like Ryan and Nigel tried to prepare us), Casey Abrams was in the bottom with Thia and Stefano.

Time for the third Jennifer of the night...Jennifer Hudson! American Idol's third place finalist showed yet again that coming in seventh place is nothing to be sad about. She continues to be one of the most successful Idol finalists and the only one with an Oscar and Golden Globe! As Jennifer sang her latest single, "Where You At," I wondered what was more impressive, her voice or her physical transformation. At the end of her performance she said, "It feels good to be home," and Ryan pointed out that Jennifer's Season 3 pal, George Huff, sang back-ups just now during her performance. He made it farther in the competition than she did, and he's singing back-up for her.

Uh oh, it was results time and I wasn't sure if I was ready to see any one leave. Thia was sent back to safety, followed by Stefano. Casey Abrams received the fewest votes. He needs to go on tour because he would be fun to watch with all of his unique instruments and crazy energy. Casey sang "I Don't Need No Doctor" for the save, which is ironic because the poor guy has needed a doctor a few times throughout his Idol journey. Haley looked especially distraught and emotional as Casey performed. The judges cut him off and said they don't need to see him perform; they already know how good he is. With that, the b-day boy announced that they are keeping Casey in the competition. The color drained from Casey's face and he shook the judges' hands. As the crowd chanted Casey's name, he practically fell down on Ryan and the steps. He hugged his super cute, proud, and emotional parents. Casey figured only 10 could go on tour and that he'd be eliminated and he said the judges "scared the stuff out of me." The judges gave Casey some advice to stray away from crazy Casey and just pull back and perform.

Then, Ryan revealed what might be the biggest surprise of the night--all 11 are going on tour! WOOHOO! The contestants broke into celebrations on stage. Two will go home next week. Who will it be?

Archer Season 2

Archer is an animated, half-hour comedy that revolves around the spy agency known as the International Secret Intelligence Service (ISIS) and the lives of its employees. Although their work of espionage, reconnaissance missions, wiretapping and undercover surveillances is daunting and enigmatic, every covert operation and global crisis are actually unmitigated occasions for the ISIS staff to undermine, sabotage and betray each other for personal gains, pleasures and prosperity.

The series features the voices of H. Jon Benjamin as the highly skilled yet incredibly vain master spy “Sterling Archer”; Aisha Tyler as fellow agent provocateur “Lana Kane”; Jessica Walter as Archer’s domineering mother and the rapacious CEO of ISIS, “Malory Archer”; Chris Parnell as the easily intimidated comptroller of ISIS, “Cyril Figgis”; Judy Greer as Malory’s loquacious secretary, “Cheryl”; Amber Nash as the discordant director of human resources for ISIS, “Pam Poovey”; and George Coe as Archer’s elderly and always exploited butler, “Woodhouse.”

After just a 10-episode debut season, Archer has gained critical exaltation, a fervid fan base and clear reverence within the television industry. In 2010, H. Jon Benjamin received an Emmy® Award nomination for Outstanding Voice-Over Performance for his work as the show’s title character, the New York Daily News declared that “Creator Adam Reed showers us with a cascade of twisted comedy that invites everyone to come in and gasp” and the Boston Herald noted that “This spy spoof hits a bull’s-eye with risqué snark and one of the best vocal casts assembled for any animated series.

America's Next Top Model S16E05

Episode 05 - Rachel Zoe (23/03/2011)

Following her appearance in the bottom two at the previous panel, Alexandria rued how she was being perceived by the judges, but the other girls all felt that the judges had her personality down correctly, and joked that they should let her fall on her own sword, and talk her way out of the competition. Despite having it redone, Molly was still unhappy with her hair weave, and revealed how it had made her scalp swell.

The girls were taken to a Cover Girl challenge, where the girls were put into teams to shoot promotional videos for Cover Girl foundation. The girls were sorted in teams of three, with each being assigned a specific role in the team – one as the director, one as the script writer, and one as the star of the commercial. Molly and Monique both struggled to perform in their roles, as their teammate, Alexandria tried to take over their roles once again, but Monique was praised for managing to do well in spite of Alexandria. In the end, the group of Brittani, Kasia and Mikaela won the challenge, and the opportunity for their video to be shown on the Cover girl website. Back at the house, Alexandria tearfully called her boyfriend, feeling misunderstood in the house, but while she did so, the other girls gossiped about her, and Monique decided to read her diary, to find out how she really felt about the other girls.

For their next photo shoot, the girls were taken to the old L.A Zoo, where they were to pose for Rachel Zoe's faux fur collection, and learned that they would be shooting with Murato, a baby jaguar. Kasia experienced the most difficulty posing with the jaguar due to her being allergic to animals, whilst Dalya was accused of only doing basic poses. Molly was unhappy about being the penultimate girl to shoot, as she felt that the jaguar had grown increasingly frustrated as the day has gone on, and the girls who shot first had it easier.

At panel, Brittani, Jaclyn and Monique all received positive feedback, but Hannah received top praise for her stellar photograph, and received first call-out for the second time. Dalya received the worst feedback, as the judges felt that she was doubting herself, and it was getting in the way of her performance, and she landed in the bottom two alongside Molly, for letting hair trouble distract her. Eventually Molly was saved, and was told that her weave would now be removed altogether, and Dalya was sent home.

First call-out: Hannah Jones
Bottom two: Dalya Morrow & Molly O'Connell
Eliminated: Dalya Morrow
