Episode 09 - Smother (13/04/2011)

Our team is called to small town in New Hampshire after three young mothers were reported missing in the past nine days. Their babies were all left at the abduction site unharmed. While on a search mission in a nearby remote area they find the bodies of two of the women. The women were brutally stabbed and their breast violently mutilated however it looks as if their clothes were laundered and their hair and makeup nicely made up. Video footage of the most recent abduction of Tanya Reston reveal a minivan driving up to her car and someone inside luring her to get close enough to force her in. They also find a pacifier at the abduction site. Our team theorizes that our unsub may be a woman, maybe a mother, who feels guilty or jealous about something and feels the need to take it out on new mothers. When Tanya’s body shows up at a nearby park our team suggest that our unsub probably had help in dumping the body here. They begin to build two separate profiles identifying our unsub as possibly a teenage boy who may have suffered from sexual assault and it taking it out on these women. The second unsub, based on the meticulous grooming and placement of the bodies, are believed to be a woman who may suffer from OCD. Another mother, Julie Camden, is abducted right from her home and her baby is taken as well. Our team meets with child protective services and they are able to help narrow down the list of kids who were victims of sexual assault at the hands of their mother. Files reveal a 17 year old Trevor Norwood was arrested last year on sexual assault charges and his victim was treated for bite mark and lacerations around her breast. Trevor’s mother was diagnosed with depression and OCD but refused to take her medication. Our team races to Norwood’s house to find Julie unconscious and Trevor trying to make a getaway. Julie’s baby is also missing. Trevor’s mother took Julie’s baby and our team races to track her down before she’s lost forever.

Our unsub is on a killing spree and demonstrates some deep seeded rage and won’t stop until he’s either killed or takes his own life. Autopsy photos reveal that our unsub is becoming angrier by the increasing violence in his kills. Our unsub kills a hiker and is about to leave the location when the victim’s cell phone rings and our unsub answers it telling the victim’s mother that was sorry. Cooper and his team convince the grieving mother to reach out to our unsub, via a news conference, to plea for him to turn himself in. Our unsub, Lionel Keane, turns out to be the father of a young serial killer who was eventually murdered in prison. The stigma of being the father of a killer took a huge toll on Lionel as people around town and at his job would treat him like a pariah. Furthermore, our team learns that a prostitute was abducted prior to the three abductions. Our unsub's progression suggest that he's gaining confidence and has gone on to abduct women of greater challenge. His profile suggest that he's most likely dumping the bodies in secluded areas which ultimately yields us to discover empty concrete bags in a salvage yard. The bags contain traces of blood which match that of our missing 53 year old mother. We ultimately find the dump site, a local river, where our unsub cut up his victim's bodies, placed them in garbage drums, filled it with concrete then dumped them in the river. However, the heads of all four bodies are missing. The three bodies are identified but the forth one, Jane Doe, has yet to be identified. This takes a personal affect on our team as no one has even reported her missing. In the end and while preventing another abduction our team apprehends our unsub. While canvassing the abduction site Beth notices a distraught African American woman who we soon learn is searching for her 8 year old daughter, Aisha, who was abducted nine days ago from a low income part of town. She questions why no one is looking for her daughter but all local resources are making a huge effort to look for Samantha. While digging further we realize that both abductions are related, as eye witnesses from both crimes describe seeing a blue color van leave the abduction site. We also learn that there have been two prior abductions of 8 year old African American girls around the same area that Aisha was abducted. Suspecting that our unsub most likely assaulted and killed these girls the team triangulates a possible location of where our unsub may have dumped the bodies. They also try to make sense of why our unsub would abduct three African American girls and then a white girl. We track a secluded dump location where the bodies of two African American girls wrapped in sheet and buried with dolls are found. Autopsy reveals no signs of sexual abuse or broken bones. Our unsub isn’t a pedophile. When they track the serial number of the dolls they realize that our unsub is purchasing the dolls a week or two after each abduction. He’s trying to win their love. Our unsub turns out to be a divorced white man who had an African American daughter whom he kidnapped from her mother. He killed her and is now trying to replace his daughter by abducting African American girls and giving them dolls to win their love. When it doesn’t work out, he kills and buries them with the doll.
