Episode 02 - Pennsylvania Asylum (02/03/2011)

So far, season 7 is starting out with a bang! TAPS investigates the outrageously spooky Penhurst State School and Hospital in Philadelphia.

Lest we forget they have day jobs…Amy calls Jason and Grant while they’re busy fixing a sink in full Roto-Rooter garb. They learn they’ve got a great case to investigate in Pennsylvania, so the guys drop everything and get to it.

HOLD IT!! The team has a HOT new van. Steve shows off the souped-up, ghost-hunting mystery machine that can even run power from the vehicle to the cameras. A mobile command unit to say the least!!

Back to the investigation.

Penhurst was forcibly closed in 1986 due to maltreatment of patients: people were actually rotting in cages! There’s good reason to for any ghosts of Penhurst to be angry or sad. The building had been built to house around 600 patients, but at the time of its closing was jam-packed with nearly 3,000 individuals who suffered greatly in this facility. Here are the paranormal claims: people being pushed, shadows, a glowing apparition, violent banging and dragging noises. Naturally, there are underground tunnels connecting the buildings, and lots of visuals of ghosts, half torsos of men, doors slamming and voices.

The tunnels are creepy, and immediately Jason and Grant hear whispers, but the acoustics are off so they are careful not to make assumptions. But gradually the voices become clearer and closer, and Grant sees something moving in the shadows. Jason asks ‘where will you go when they tear this place down?’ and Grant clearly hears a voice yell "Spring City" What does THAT mean???

Meanwhile, Steve and Tango sit quietly in the Quaker Building Basement, where reports stand that people have had a crowbar thrown at them. They hear some footsteps, but that’s it.

In the Mayflower building, Amy and Adam check out the Mayflower Room where things get Cah-Razeeee! So many noises! Dragging, running, knocking, footsteps! Amy says it’s like something was trapped in one of the rooms. But nothing was there and nothing can explain those sounds!

In the Devon Building, Jay and Grant BOTH see a shadow turn and dart away. They chase it but then it vanishes! This is the second time Jay has seen it. Grant is now also a witness and it was so real he thought it was some punk screwing up the investigation! Now Amy and Adam take a turn in the tunnels and catch a groan on tape that freaks them out. Later they return to find the sound again and hear a… cow? Oh, there is a large dairy farm across the street.

Steve and Dave hit the Quaker Building, wrought with decrepit wheelchairs and crooked ladders. They hear a loud BANG! They can only recreate that noise by slamming the window frame but there is no way that could happen on its own. Darn It-they NEVER have a camera where they belong!!! The guys put a camera there in case it happens again. Adding to the personal experiences were some audio clips of a voice saying “go home”, footsteps and a crazy EVP recording of a young person giggling or laughing, kind of in an insane way!! What an investigation. A great night for the team.

1000 Ways to Die is an American docufiction television series that premiered on May 14, 2008 on Spike. The program recreates unusual deaths and includes interviews with experts who describe the science behind each death. Up until the end of Season One, the final story of each episode showed actual footage of dangerous situations that almost ended in death, along with interviews with people involved in the situations. A portion of these deaths have been nominated for or have received a Darwin Award.

Death is the ultimate unknown; something we both fear and are intrigued by. 1,000 Ways to Die chronicles the last moments of people who met an untimely demise by making bad choices or through sheer bad luck. As well as being horrifying & morbidly funny, 1,000 Ways to Die is also educational and recreates the scenes using state of the art CGI graphics animation.

American Idol S10E14

Episode 14 - Top 12 Girls Perform (02/03/2011)

It was ladies night and Jennifer Lopez celebrated in a beautiful, sparkly dress. Randy Jackson, Steven Tyler, and Jennifer were ready for another night of performances, and I was ready to see which girls would be stand-outs.

The most upbeat song of the night is usually placed in the number one spot, and that belonged to Ta-Tynisa Wilson. She chose Rihanna's "Only Girl (In The World)," which is a tough song to sing, especially while dancing around the stage. I liked how she made use of the stage and I liked her dress, for what it's worth. Steven said, "The song sang you, and you sang the song beautifully," which seemed a tad contradictory, but I think that means he liked it. Jennifer thought it started shaky, but that Ta-Ty recovered well. Randy didn't think she brought anything new to the song, and Jennifer stood up for Ta-Tynisa and explained that Ta-Tynisa got the crowd moving, which is a sign of a good performer. The dawg isn't easily moved.

Want to know where Naima Adedapo gets her one-of-a-kind dresses? She designs them! She sang "Summertime" which is never a good idea on the Idol stage where Fantasia had one of the most memorable moments in American Idol history, but Naima made it her own. Beginning her performance with some interesting arm choreography, she showed a lot of personality, strong vocals, and she danced for the judges. Jennifer called her an exotic flower, which is what Naima means. Randy thought it was too much of a lounge act performance, and of course he compared it to Fantasia. However, he was glad she nailed the note at the end. Steven compared Naima to an early Ella Fitzgerald and said this is what America needs right now.

Kendra Chantelle worked in bathtub sales before American Idol. That seems like a much less glamorous lifestyle. I wasn't familiar with the Christina Aguilera song she performed, "Impossible," but she hit some really high notes that I thought were impossible. It's bold to take on a Christina song, and the only thing I wasn't wild about is her really long whitish nails. Randy loved Kendra's vibrato, which he humorously imitated, and he compared her to Lauryn Hill. Steven thought everything about her and her performance was hot, and Jennifer believed that we've only scratched the surface with Kendra.

I questioned why Rachel Zevita was wearing a fringed poncho, but she busted it open to reveal a cute little black and red lace dress. She knocked over the microphone stand and started sauntering around the judges' table. All of the sudden I realized she was singing a very different version of Fiona Apple's "Criminal." While I appreciated her originality, it was risky to completely redo the song. Steven Tyler loved Rachel's strut and thinks that may Broadway could be this New Yorker's niche. Jennifer reminded Rachel that this is the first time America will really get to know her style, and busting out a Broadway-style performance for the first time at this stage was an unusual choice. Randy said he didn't recognize the Fiona song.

When I heard the first few notes of Mariah Carey's "Hero," I became nervous for Karen Rodriguez. Idol watchers know that if you sing Mariah, two things are going to happen: Randy's going to say that he worked with her, and then he's going to say that it's too big to take on. But, Karen not only sang it well, she alternated in English and Spanish. It was a really nice touch and a way to show her versatility. I suggest that she pockets that and if she makes the show she shouldn't bust out the Spanish for 4 or 5 weeks when we've forgotten about that trick up her asymmetrical sleeve. Jennifer was nearly speechless and showed off her "goose pimples." Randy thought Karen sounded even better in Spanish, and Steven said that she's one-of-a-kind and should collaborate with her new Idol BFF, Jacob Lusk.

Housekeeper Lauren Turner took on Etta James' "Seven Day Fool," which was fitting for her job with lyrics like, "Scrub your dirty floor...I wash your dirty clothes." Lauren is someone who kind of snuck by for a while without me realizing how good she was. Randy loved the power and her bluesy, soulful flavor. He compared her to Amy Winehouse meets Florence + The Machine. I didn't hear the resemblance with either of those English ladies, but that's not bad company. Steven said it was "a perfect, full, complete sentence." Jennifer said that Lauren's voice is undeniable, but she needed to get up in the camera more. Lauren looked at the camera and replied, "I'm sarcastic, America!" Wait...was that sarcasm?

Ashthon Jones selected a Monica song, and I remembered that early favorite Anoop Desai performed a Monica song for his first performance for America's votes, and they didn't vote him through. As she sang, "Love All Over Me," she did a good job of getting up in the camera's face and interacting with the crowd. Her outfit made her look like she had the world's smallest torso, but she's cute regardless. I like her better than I liked that song. Steven said she had the "confidence of Queen and you sing so sweet." Queen Latifah? Freddie Mercury's Queen? Queen Elizabeth? I guess all of those queens are confident. Jennifer said she has all the makings of a diva and incredible confidence, to which Ashthon confidently remarked, "I got it from you!" Her imitation of the way Jennifer cocks her head was perfect! Randy likes Ashthon but thought that she's bigger and broader than the song she chose.

Julie Zorrilla decided to take on a Kelly Clarkson song on Kelly Clarkson turf. She looked beautiful, but a tad prom-like or pageanty. There was a lot of arm movement that went on as she sang "Breakaway." I guess she was acting out the "I'll spread my wings" lyrics. At one point her arm knocked her updo. She was an early standout in the competition, but this performance wasn't quite as good as the other stuff we've heard from Julie. Jennifer liked it but wanted to see more of a connection between Julie and the story of the song. Randy pulled out his go-to phrase of the night, "You didn't bring anything different or new to it." Did you know that Randy knows Kelly Clarkson? Steven believed the song would have suited Julie better if she brought it up a few keys.

Haley Reinhart sang Alicia Keys' "Fallin'." Why does everyone always sing this song on Idol? I liked Haley's sass and the way she switched octaves with ease, although at times it seemed like she was almost over-singing it. Again, Randy didn't think the song was right for Haley. He wanted something that shows off the husky voice the judges fell in love with. Steven disagreed and said it had the right amount of style and sexiness and told Randy, "If I agreed with you we'd both be wrong." It was nice hearing Steven stand up. Jennifer mentioned the many colors in Haley's voice, but she'd like to see Haley not think about every little step and just commit. Jennifer has been giving good advice tonight!

Thia Megia created a moment for herself on stage. With just a single spotlight casting down upon her, Thia started off a capella for Irene Cara's "Out Here On My Own" from FAME. Thia was -15 when that movie came about, so I wondered if the song was in the 2009 remake. Coincidentally, Karen Rodriguez and Pia Toscano attended the Fame School. Steven started by saying, "Sometimes a person's pitch can be so perfect it doesn't matter what song they sing, and you did just that." Jennifer appreciated the beautiful, quiet moment amongst eleven other big performances. Randy said Thia reminded him of Michael Jackson! I don't see it, but that's huge. Randy remarked, "The mark of a great singer is the quality of the tone of their voice not the runs or the power." Thia should be feeling good about the risk she took!

Lauren Alaina kicked up her boots and sang Reba McEntire's "On The Radio." Although I wasn't too familiar with this song, by the end of the night I had the song stuck in my head. It looks like Lauren studied videos of old Idols; she has some of the same performance qualities. Jennifer told her 'Little Lauren' that she doesn't even have to try. Randy added that she has a natural gift and he doesn't think Lauren knows how good she is. He then compared her to a combo of Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood, which is what I have been saying all along. Steven said she kills him, he loves her, and she's the best. Hey, you'll always have "I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing." Lauren Alaina introduced us to "Peaches Seacrest." I think that name is gonna stick!

The night ended with Pia Toscano, who we hadn't heard a whole lot from. I was completely blown away by her performance of "I'll Stand By You" by The Pretenders. Pia always seems very put-together and professional when she sings. When she was finished performing, she got the first standing ovation of the season from the judges. Pia's parents were crying and so was Ashthon, aka Jonesy. Randy said that Pia's performance just put her at the top with some of the other great Idol performances they've had on this stage. Mr. Tyler gave us a new Steven-ism, and he didn't have to use the curse bubble for it: "After Monday and Tuesday, even a week says WTF." How does he come up with this stuff?! Jennifer noticed that Pia was saving this performance for when it counts and said it was out of this world. This was possibly one of the most important performances of Pia's life, and she nailed it!

I thought the girls were awesome, but we'd find out what America thought in Thursday's 2-hour results show. Who do you love?

Survivor : Redemption Island S22E03

Episode 03 - Keep Hope Alive (02/03/2011)..

When Matt arrived at Redemption Island, Francesca was shocked to see someone from Rob's alliance. After Ometepe returned from Tribal Council, Rob told Phillip that he was in his alliance with Grant, Ashley and Natalie. The next day, the tribes received Tree Mail instructing them to draw marbles to see who would witness the duel on Redemption Island. Zapatera sent over David and Steve, while Ometepe sent over Ashley and Andrea. The duel was won by Matt in a come from behind victory, sending Francesca home. Back at Ometepe, Rob talked to Andrea and tried to reassure her that she was still part of his alliance, but Andrea did not believe him and wanted to find a way to mix things up in the future. Over at Zapatera, Russell's alliance could not find the Hidden Immunity Idol, so they decided to feign like they did have one by having Stephanie constantly carry around her bag, giving the impression that an idol was in her purse. David, Mike, Ralph, Sarita, and Steve all agreed to lose the next challenge on purpose in order to vote out Russell. Julie was reluctant about this plan, as she did not want to give any momentum to Ometepe and she thought she could handle Russell. At the Reward/Immunity Challenge, the group of six went through with deliberately losing the challenge, despite Julie's hesitance. Back at Ometepe, Rob found the clue to the Hidden Immunity Idol hidden within the reward. At Zapatera, the group of six decided to split their votes between Russell and Stephanie. Russell suspected that the six did throw the challenge and, together with Stephanie, tried to get Julie to flip to Russell's alliance and to vote against Ralph. At Tribal Council, the division between the majority and Russell's alliance was discussed. When it came time for the vote, Julie stuck with the majority and the vote was tied 3–3–3 between Ralph, Russell, and Stephanie. On the re-vote, Russell was voted out in a 5–1 vote and was sent to Redemption Island.

Redemption Island Duel: The two castaways would use rope to tie together sticks in order to make a pole to retrieve three keys. The first castaway to retrieve all three keys and unlock three locks would win.

Reward/Immunity Challenge: Three members from each tribe would be strapped to a large wheel. Three other tribe members would spin the wheel, which would cause one strapped in castaway at a time to be dunked head first into water. While under water, the castaway would take water in the mouth, which they would then spit into a tube. Once the tube was filled, a ball would be released. One tribe member would then solve a slide puzzle. The first tribe to have their puzzle solved would win.

Reward: Two chairs, two pillows, tarp, three blankets, and a lantern

Survivor: Redemption Island is the twenty-second season of the American CBS competitive reality television series Survivor, which premiered on February 16, 2011. Applications were due in January 2010, and filming lasted from August to September 2010. The season was filmed in the vicinity of San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua, the same filming location as the previous season. The show features returning players Russell Hantz and Rob Mariano, and 16 new players to Survivor.

Also on the team are Emily Prentiss (Paget Brewster), the daughter of an ambassador and a surprise addition that neither Hotchner or Gideon signed off on; Derek Morgan (Shemar Moore), an expert in obsessional crimes; Dr. Spencer Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler), a classical misunderstood genius whose social IQ is as low as his intellectual IQ is high; and Jennifer 'JJ' Jareau (A.J. Cook), a confident young agent who acts as the unit liaison for the team. Also helping the team is Penelope Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness), the team's audio/visual technician.

Each member brings their own area of expertise to the table as they pinpoint predators' motivations and identify their emotional triggers in an attempt to stop them.

Episode 17 - One Last Score (01/03/2011)

­NCIS investigates the brutal murder of a temporary NCIS employee who was recently fired. Evidence reveals that he was selling information about the location of very valuable evidence that was being stored in a warehouse. The valuables belong to Leona Phelps, the Bernie Madoff of the Navy, currently in jail and awaiting her trial. Phelps is able to cut a deal with NCIS, and in exchange for house arrest she would give us the name of our killer. The warehouse that held all her valuables is broken into but nothing is stolen that we can account for. We eventually discover that the thieves attempted to steal her ledger which held off-shore account information on where she hid all the money she stole from her clients. However, when the thieves didn’t find it at the warehouse they track Phelps down at her house. We eventually discover that the thieves were clients of hers who entrusted her with $27million of stolen money that she in turn stole for herself.

(Naval Criminal Investigative Service) is an action drama, about a team of special agents whose mission is to investigate any crime that has a shred of evidence connected to Navy and Marine Corps personnel, regardless of rank or position. Leading this team that operates outside of the military chain of command is NCIS Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon), a highly-skilled investigator and interrogator who is smart, tough and willing to bend the rules to get the job done. Working under Gibbs is Special Agent Anthony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly) a former Homicide Detective who has instincts that come only from working on the streets. Joining them are Agent Kate Todd (Sasha Alexander), a beautiful, tough former Secret Service Agent who has gone head-to-head with Gibbs in the past. She is killed on the last episode of season 2. Kate is replaced by Officer Ziva David

Episode 18 - Harm's Way (01/03/2011)

Sam's alias "Hakeem Fayed" receives an email from Abdul Habaza (Episode #214) with a time and place to meet. Hetty is hesitant to send Sam on this mission since she feels his personal vendetta against Abdul may get in the way. Eric informs them that the Overwatch Sam sprayed on Abdul only has a few days left and they are still waiting for him to meet his brother Saadat. Hetty reluctantly agrees. Sam enters the motel room of the location on the email and finds a man shot dead. He also discovers a fake passport and plane ticket for him to Yemen. The passport photo was from his time at Oakville and the team is unsure if Sam's identity has been compromised. Sam and Callen head to Yemen while Kensi and Deeks stay behind to figure out if Sam's identity was compromised. Upon Sam's arrival, Abdul immediately meets him and takes him to an undisclosed location in the desert where he has him guard the seven year old son of a Saudi Prince who they kidnapped a week ago. Callen follows Abdul and Sam to the location with Nate's help; Nate is Hetty's asset in Yemen. Kensi and Deeks track Abdul's location before he left for Yemen and are surprised to discover the illusive Saadat is posing as a Colombian night manager at the hotel Abdul stayed at before he fled. Kensi and Deeks give chase and a fire fight ensues killing Saadat. Hetty tries to immediately abort Sam's mission but it is too late and Abdul confronts Sam and takes him hostage, looking to leverage him for the freedom of imprisoned Al-Qaida members. Callen rushes in to help Sam and Hetty gets Director Vance on the phone for authorization to assassinate Abdul. Callen gets Sam free and Abdul is about to get away when they get the OK from Vance. Sam hesitates for a moment but takes the shot and realizes justice was served for Moe.

NCIS: Los Angeles (Naval Criminal Investigative Service: Los Angeles) is an American police procedural television series which premiered on CBS on September 22, 2009. The series airs following NCIS on Tuesdays.
NCIS: Los Angeles is the first spin-off of NCIS which itself was a spinoff of another CBS series, JAG. On October 7, 2009, CBS gave the series a full-season pickup, extending the first season to 22 episodes. The season was extended again on November 4, 2009, when CBS announced its order for an additional two episodes.

The second season began airing on September 21, 2010, with Eric Christian Olsen (Marty Deeks) joining the cast as a series regular. Olsen appeared in two episodes of the first season as a guest star. Peter Cambor (Nate Getz) was not listed in the opening credits of the first episode, "Human Traffic", but as a "special guest star;" in the second episode, he did not appear at all, nor was he listed as a regular. He departed in the season's third episode, telling Hetty he wants to return to the Middle East.

American Idol S10E13

Episode 13 - Top 12 Boys Perform (01/03/2011)

It was good to be home on the big American Idol stage. But there was no small stage in the round with a red room above. This was a serious stage with audience members all over the place--above the stage, to the side, up high, and there were three chairs randomly flanking either side of the judges' circle.

Fresh off the Oscars, Ryan Seacrest was bright-eyed and chatted it up with Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, and Steven Tyler. We learned that Randy calls Season 10 "The Remix," Jenny from the Block isn't afraid to wear faux jewelry, and Ryan gave Steven an American Idol logo on a stick to put over his mouth if he curses. No worries, the bubble was made large enough for the rocker's signature lips.

The theme of the night was essentially no theme--the Idols got to pick any song they wanted. America would vote for the Top 5 guys and Top 5 girls, and then the judges would round out the finalists with their wildcard selections. And, for the first time ever, voting was introduced right here on AmericanIdol.com. Did you vote?!

Having the tough job of kicking off the very first performance for America's votes was Clint Jun Gamboa, but as an energetic karaoke bar host, he had no problem getting the crowd going. He sang the upbeat Stevie Wonder song "Superstition" which has been performed on this Idol stage many times before by RJ Helton, Bucky Covington, Ricky Braddy, Siobhan Magnus, and Stevie Wonder himself. Clint sounded good and I loved the electrifying colors on the stage, but I don't know if this was his best performance. Steven thought it was beautiful and brilliant. Jennifer noticed that Clint had jitters, but she didn't think they affected his performance. Randy complimented Jun Bug saying, "There's no karaoke singer in the world that has that kind of vocal talent. This is a singing competition and that was brilliant." The night was off to a good start!

Jovany Barreto took on another popular Idol song, Edwin McCain's "I'll Be." There's no denying that this ship builder can sing, but was it good enough to be sent to the finals? Although the audience members on the floor are now in seats, they still swayed their arms. Steven sure thought so, he exclaimed, "Holy Shipyard!" Jennifer thought this was a good first impression, but Randy thought it was just okay and kind of karaoke. However, he did like the modulation in Jovany's voice. Jovany was hoping to have Randy's backing based on their Louisiana roots, but Randy said he's gotta be tough on his homeboy.

Another Louisiana native took the stage. Jordan Dorsey had an interesting choice with Usher's "OMG." That song is auto-tuned, so it's an unusual choice for a singer to show off his vocals. He could have had a moment if he slowed it down and turned it into a ballad, but Jordan decided to keep it high-energy and really showcase his dance moves. At one point he took off his jacket, revealing a royal purple shirt to channel Justin Bieber. He ended by dropping to his knees (I hope he was wearing knee pads) and shooting one arm up in the air. Steven said it wasn't "OMG over-the-top for me." Jennifer reminded Jordan that what she loves about him is his soft R&B Nat King Cole vibe, and this didn't showcase that. Randy said that it's a cool song but Jordan didn't bring anything exciting to it. Although I appreciated Jordan's energy and stage presence, this was a risky move at this do-or-die round of the competition.

Brett Loewenstern channeled his fiery locks with The Doors' "Light My Fire." He shook out his nicely diffused ringlets over and over. His vocals may not have been out of this world, but you can always count on Brett for a fun, fresh performance. Steven said Brett was on fire. Jennifer observed, "It was like more hair tossing than me and Beyonce put together in the past 10 years." HAHA! Hey, if you've got it, toss it. Randy noticed some pitch problems but appreciated that Brett was bold and fun. After Ryan read Brett's voting numbers, Brett scurried off the stage. Ryan called him back and Brett thought it was for a hug. He's cute.

Another rocking performance came from James Durbin, the first contestant to perform a Judas Priest song on American Idol. James took on "You've Got Another Thing Coming" and the performance was like a rock concert. He knows how to position himself on the stage for good camera close-ups, and I like the way he looks without his bandana around his head. Jennifer was clapping in her chair like a happy cheerleader, but I imagine Judas Priest isn't something on rotation in her mp3 player. James dropped to his knees as he sang and ended his performance with a rock star jump and rock 'n roll hand signs. Steven said an expletive and that James is "crazy good. I love it that you're over the top." Jennifer likes that he's an organic performer. Randy wanted all the other contestants to take note that this is how you do it, and he was glad James didn't overuse his high screaming voice.

Robbie Rosen changed the mood from rock 'n roll to love songs with Sarah McLachlan's "Angel." When I transcribed his bio for the website, he listed this as his dream song to perform on Idol, so I'm glad he didn't wait around and miss the opportunity. He changed up the song a little bit from the original, and it seemed like less of a tear jerker. Every time I hear Sarah's version I want to cry because I think of City of Angels and animal cruelty. Steven told Robbie, "You can sing a ballad like nobody's business." Jennifer likes that Robbie tells stories with his songs. Randy didn't think this was a great performance because it was pitchy, dawg.

Baby lock 'em doors and turn the lights down low, it's time for Scotty McCreery! Singing John Michael Montgomery's "Letters From Home," he seemed really comfortable up there for a teen--or anyone! Country music may not be your thing, but you can't deny his soothing vocals. Steven didn't think there was a better song that Scotty could have picked. Jennifer summed it up by saying, "There are some people who are just born to do something. You were born to sing country music." Randy said he's a big fan and that he loves the throwback country vibe and the lowness of Scotty's voice.

We went from the deepest voice to the highest voice when Stefano Langone followed Scotty with Bruno Mars' "Just The Way You Are." Bruno Mars was popular during Hollywood Group night, and last night on my ride home I heard Grenade three times on three different stations back-to-back-to-back. I liked that Stefano went with a current hit to show that he can be on the radio now days, but he hit a rough note. Jennifer was clapping in her seat until he went for that super high note, but that didn't stop the judges from giving him positive feedback. Steven loved it. Jennifer said he's consistent, natural, good, and a beast. Randy commented that all three judges were rocking out like they were at a concert and shouted, "This kid could be on the radio right now!" When Ryan asked Stefano who he was dedicating that song too, and Stefano skirted the real question by saying it was for all the ladies out there.

During Nashville auditions, we only heard a split-second of Paul McDonald's version of "Maggie May." This time he gave us the whole Rod Stewart song which suited his vocals nicely. Although he traded in his sparkly rose-embroidered suit for a sleek all-black get-up, Paul's pearly whites lit up the already bright stage. Paul has a unique way of waving his left hand around as he sings, and it's kind of adorable. I believe it's just that this guitar player doesn't know what to do with his free hand quite yet. The judges liked this "quirky" singer and Steven said, "You got a real character about your voice and I love that." Jennifer also loved the character of his movement and his electrifying smile. Randy remarked, "You are just so unique and different from anything we've had on the show."

Jacob Lusk looked really good in a fancy suit for his performance of "A House Is Not A Home." Some of the most talented singers on American Idol have taken on this song--Tamyra Gray, Ruben Studdard, Anwar Robinson, and Elliott Yamin--and Jacob performed a version worthy of being listed among those names. Personally, Tamyra's version always seemed most memorable to me, and I think people will be talking about Jacob's for a while too. He emoted like always when he sang, and he reached for notes as high as the audience members in the nose bleed seats above the stage. Steven Tyler believed that divine intervention brought Jacob to American Idol, and that to hear a voice like that today is unbelievable. He even shared, "I'm honored to be in your presence. You make me cry when you sing." Jennifer thought this is what is so great about American Idol, and she gave me chills when she remarked, "Luther Vandross is gone, but now we have you." Randy believes that Luther would be proud of Jacob's performance, and that there's nothing Jacob can't sing. (What about the phonebook, Randy?)

Closing out the night was Mr. Casey Abrams with Screamin' Jay Hawkins' "I Put A Spell On You." The song is well matched for Casey's growly voice and Screamin' Jay's personality is as over-the-top as Casey's. He reached from deep within as he pulled out notes during the song...no wonder he had a stomach ache this week! He used the stage well, too. Steven said this is as good as it gets, and Jennifer affirmed what Casey wanted to prove--that he's sexy. (I guess if you like a lot of facial hair). I think he looks like a grown-up, hairy version of Luke from Modern Family. Randy loved how Casey transformed into the spirit of the song and shouted, "More, more, more! Yes, yes, yes!" I'll have what he's having!

The first episode was off to a great start. I liked that so many of the contestants weren't afraid to move around the stage. Also, it was nice to hear some artists' songs we don't often get on Idol. Savannah is shocked when Charlotte finally reveals the identity of her baby's father. Marti confronts her mother, trying to learn more about her father. The Hellcats learn that Memphis Christian is using the same song as the Hellcats for their routine at nationals.

Hellcats is an American cheerleading comedy-drama television series that airs on The CW in the United States. Based on the book Cheer: Inside the Secret World of College Cheerleaders by journalist Kate Torgovnick, the series focuses in the lives of college cheerleaders, mainly Marti Perkins (Aly Michalka), a pre-law college student who has to join the cheerleading team, the Hellcats, in order to get the athletic scholarship she needs. The main cast also includes Ashley Tisdale, Robbie Jones, Heather Hemmens, Matt Barr, Gail O'Grady and Sharon Leal.

In May 2010, Hellcats had been picked by The CW for the fall 2010–11 season. Initially with a 13-episode order, The CW aired the series after America's Next Top Model on Wednesday nights. The pilot episode aired on September 8, 2010, and became the first premiere to ever match or build on an America's Next Top Model lead-in since The CW began in 2006. The CW later gave a full season order for the series, with executives saying they were "thrilled that [it] paid off for us".

Hellcats follows Marti Perkins, a pre-law college student at Lancer University, who lost her scholarship and has no other choice but to join the college's cheer squad, the Hellcats, in order to obtain a new one. There she meets her new roommate and team captain Savannah Monroe, the injured flyer Alice Verdura, her new partner Lewis Flynn and the Hellcats coach Vanessa Lodge who hopes to win nationals, otherwise the cheer leading program will be cut. All the while, Marti also has to deal with her financially unstable and sometimes irresponsible mother, Wanda Perkins, whom she often has to bail out of difficult situations, and her best friend Dan Patch. Dan and Savannah begin dating and subsequently split after Marti revealed that she and Dan hooked up, but Savannah and Dan reconcile at Dan's brother's wedding.
