48 Hours Mystery - River's Edge

Two college students fake death in order to cheat death

College students Danielle Keener and Dan Zapp were out on a peaceful date unaware, at first, that they are being stalked. They are suddenly kidnapped at gunpoint and forced into a truck. The gunman brutalizes Danielle and pushes the teens to the edge of a river, shooting them both in the face. The gunman thinks he's gotten rid of his witnesses... but he's wrong.

Fringe S03E17

Episode 17 - Stowaway (18/03/2011)

Fingerprints at the scene of an apparent suicide lead the Fringe team to a seemingly immortal woman.

Fringe follows the casework of the Fringe Division, a Joint Federal Task Force supported primarily by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which includes Agent Olivia Dunham; Dr. Walter Bishop, the archetypal mad scientist; and Peter Bishop, Walter's estranged son and jack-of-all-trades. They are supported by Phillips Broyles, the force's director, and Agent Astrid Farnsworth, who assists Walter in laboratory research. The Fringe Division investigates cases relating to fringe science, ranging from transhumanist experiments gone wrong to the prospect of a destructive technological singularity to a possible collision of two parallel universes. The Fringe Division's work often intersects with advanced biotechnology developed by a company called Massive Dynamic, founded by Walter's former partner, Dr. William Bell and run by their common friend, Nina Sharp. The team is also watched silently by a group of bald, pale men who call themselves "Observers".

Season 1 introduces the Fringe Division as they investigate cases that form "the Pattern", many orchestrated by the bioterrorist organization, ZFT (Zerstörung durch Fortschritte der Technologie, or in English, Destruction through advances in technology). Olivia comes to learn she was a child test subject for Walter years ago for a nootropic drug, Cortexiphan, giving her weak psionic abilities. Walter also struggles with adjusting to normal life in Peter's care after living several years in a mental institution, and hides a secret about Peter's past from him.

In Season 2, the occurrences are found to be in conjunction with activities of a parallel universe, which is plagued by singularities occurring at weakened points of their world. The Fringe team deals with more cases that are leading to a "perfect storm" as the parallel universe appears to be at war with the prime one. Walter is forced to tell Peter that he is from the parallel universe, a replacement for his own Peter that died from a genetic disease, and that it is his prior experiments that caused the singularities in the parallel universe.[3]

Season 3 presents episodes that alternate between the two universes. "Walternate",[4] Walter's doppelgänger in the parallel universe, has set events in motion to assemble a doomsday device that reacts only to Peter's biology, sending his Olivia, "Fauxlivia", into the prime universe in Olivia's place, get close to Peter, and guide them to find the doomsday device's prime universe counterpart. Olivia, trapped in the parallel universe, is subjected to experimentation by Walternate to explore her Cortexiphan-induced abilities. She is able to escape to her own universe using her psionic abilities and expose Fauxlivia to Peter. Fauxlivia is extracted to the parallel universe, having withdrawn a critical component of the doomsday device, but soon finds she is pregnant with Peter's child. In the prime universe, Olivia and Peter resolve their relation due to Fauxlivia's involvement, while evidence of weak points in the fabric of reality start to develop.

The controversial plot line explores issues such as dysfunctional families, mental illness (including eating disorders), sexual orientation identity, substance abuse and death. The show was created by father and son television writers Bryan Elsley and Jamie Brittain for Company Pictures, and premiered on E4 on 25 January 2007.

But with lovely-but-shambolic Alo as best man, it's hardly a surprise that they run into trouble and become separated in the wilds of Somerset. Will they make it to the church on time? And will they still be friends by the end? We’ll probably do some laughing and crying whatever happens.

American Idol S10E19

Episode 19 - The Second Finalist Of The Season Is Sent Home (17/03/2011)

The Top 12 results show opened with footage of the finalists as kids, and voice overs of them talking about what they wanted to be when they grew up. I love the editing of the baby photos and old film strip look to the recap of last night's show.

The judges took the stage with the guys in black and Jennifer Lopez in white. Steven Tyler was wearing a sparkly long jacket. In honor of "Songs From The Year They Were Born," we saw baby photos of Lee DeWyze and The Black Eyed Peas. Ryan Seacrest shared information on how viewers could send a text to the Red Cross that would donate $10 to Japan earthquake and tsunami relief.

The Top 12 performed live with the guys singing "Born To Be Wild" and the girls sang "Born This Way." It was energetic and exciting. I'd love to see these Idol mash-ups on iTunes. This was the first time I've seen the Idols travel down the stairways in the audience.

This week's Idols music video was a drive-in movie themed piece. Ryan shared that there have been 250 million Idol music downloads on iTunes since Idol began...and Idol downloads began Season 7. To celebrate, there were "American Idol Tenth Anniversary--The Hits" compilation albums under the chairs, and the audience celebrated as if Oprah gave them a car.

We found out what else defines our Idols. I like these candid segments. Ryan asked Kieran to dim the lights and it was St. Patrick's Day lighting, which looked kind of like the light show Casey Abrams got for "Smells Like Teen Spirit" last night. The "Luck of the Irish" saying on the screens made me think that no one was going to get eliminated. No such luck. Lauren Alaina, Jacob Lusk, and Casey Abrams were brought down to the stage first. Although people have challenged whether the word "pitchy" means anything, Randy defined it and gave Jacob some advice. Jacob will take that advice into next week because he's safe. Lauren's illness didn't affect her; she's safe. That left Casey Abrams, who has been looking quite thin, but luckily he's healthy and got to attend his first results show as a finalist. His Nirvana risk paid off...Casey's safe.

Haley Reinhart and Paul McDonald joined Ryan on the stage. They have two of the whitest sets of teeth in America. Haley was in the bottom for the second week in a row, and Paul was safe again.

You know who got a free Idol CD tonight? Pitbull and Marc Anthony...they're in the audience. From salesman to superstar, the reigning American Idol Lee DeWyze debuted his new single, "Beautiful Like You" on the stage that changed his life one year ago. He played the guitar and displayed his signature vocals. A quick-talking Lee advised the contestants, "Remember why you tried out in the first place, because at the end of the day--no matter when you leave--you still love music and you're still gonna keep doing it. You guys are fine no matter what happens."

Scotty McCreery, Pia Toscano, and James Durbin were invited down stage and the crowd chanted, "Scotty, Scotty!" Ryan joked that he should start singing "Kieran dim the lights down low," a play off Scotty's favorite song, "Your Man." Pia was next, and someone in the audience yelled that she's safe. She was, and she hugged James and made her way back to the bleachers. James Durbin is one step closer to the finale where he could perform with Steven.

Stefano Langone and Naima Adedapo were up next, and if we're following the pattern of the night, one will be safe and one will be in the bottom three. Both were wild card picks, and Stefano was safe and Naima joined Haley in the bottom.

It came down to Karen Rodriguez and Thia Megia...one would be in the bottom. Thia paid tribute to "Colors of the Wind" with her Pocahontas braids. Karen was the third person in the bottom three, so Thia was safe.

American Idol viewers got their second song debut of the night: "Just Can't Get Enough" by The Black Eyed Peas. Will.i.am's was wearing an interesting hard plastic shell over his hair and Fergie looked like Marilyn Monroe. There was some pretty cool dancing and smoke on the stage.

Time flew by and it was already the end of the hour. Which girl was out of the competition? Not Naima; she was safe. It was down to the two who were in the bottom last week, Haley and Karen. For some reason America isn't connecting with them. Haley was safe, and Karen was in the bottom. Haley encouraged her to "sing your head off." Karen decided to take on Mariah Carey's "Hero" again. That's a good decision; it was her best performance. She sang it in English and Spanish and we saw Jennifer and Randy shaking their heads. I wasn't sure if that meant "no" or that they're really into it. Karen was definitely into it and her eyes fluttered back in her head when she went for the high notes. The always pleasant Karen said she's grateful for the opportunity and knows she can do better. She was crying and Ryan wiped away her tears. Yesterday he cleaned off Haley's lipstick with his handkerchief and tonight he's wiping tears. What a host!

Randy said it was not unanimous and they talked a lot about whether they should save Karen. The dawg said they won't be using the save on Karen. I didn't realize what a change Karen has made with her looks since her first audition. Soon after the clips started, the judges were already on the stage hugging her. The contestants joined them. Steven seemed really upset and Randy encouraged Karen that it's alright. Jennifer chatted with Haley and Naima. Aww man, Season 10! You get me every time!

America's Next Top Model S16E04

Episode 04 - Francesco Carrozzini (16/03/2011)

Returning from panel, Alexandria's first call-out stirred controversy, because the other girls felt that she was undeserving for her rash behavior at the previous photo shoot. On the other hand, Alexandria herself vowed to improve her perceived bad attitude.

Miss J. challenged the girls to walk for a Geoffrey Mac fashion show on a runway that was set ablaze. During hair and makeup, Molly finally had her weave taken out, much to her delight. Alexandria, Brittani and Dalya all excelled at the show, and were named as the top three, but it was Dalya who won the challenge, and two of Geoffrey’s pieces. Conversely, Hannah, Kasia and Sara were told that they performed the worst in the challenge, and as punishment, they had to walk home. Kasia took the journey back to the house as an opportunity to improve on her walk, and the girls held an impromptu practice session on the way home.

Next, the girls learned that instead of a photo shoot, this week they would be filming a commercial for a fictitious Fierce Roast coffee in pairs, with a retro 60's-inspired theme, with Francesco Carrozzini as their director. Sara was immediately uncomfortable, as the idea of suppressed women behaving sexually for their own gain went against her feminist beliefs. Alexandria again caused problems on set, when Francesco and Jay Manuel felt that she was trying to dictate her and Brittani’s shoot.

At panel, the tandem of Kasia and Jaclyn received praise, while Hannah, Dalya and Monique also received positive feedback. Sara and Brittani’s performance disappointed the judges and though Alexandria shot a decent commercial, when told that the director was disappointed with her behavior on set, she tried to make excuses, upsetting the judges further.

Kasia received first call out for her strong commercial, while Alexandria and Sara were called forward as the bottom two. Alexandria was lambasted for being a know-it-all, with a bad attitude, and Sara for still not living up to her potential. After a final warning from Tyra to change her attitude, Alexandria was kept in the competition, and Sara was sent home.

First call-out: Kasia Pilewicz
Bottom two: Alexandria Everett & Sara Longoria
Eliminated: Sara Longoria

Ghost Hunters S07E04

Episode 04 - French Quarter Phantoms (16/03/2011)

The U.S. Mint? No kidding! The TAPS team are the first every paranormal investigators invited to investigate the most haunted vault in America’s most haunted city.

The historic Mint building, in New Orleans, was built in the 1800s and now stands as a museum. Paranormal activity includes stories about the ghost of a confederate gambler who was hanged on the front lawn. But only the Ghost Hunters will be able to confirm this.

Other claims are of temperature fluctuations and sightings of torsos of ghosts, light flickering and alarms going off. Jimmie Jackson, a security guard, has seen one particular entity five times. It has black hair, tattered clothing and randomly disappears. Jimmie maintains that he doesn’t believe in ghosts, but he’s seen this one, which could be the ghost of William Mumford. Other people reportedly heard Mumford’s mother moaning and saw her throughout the building. Or it could be the ghost of the man who was crushed to death by the money printer.

K.J. is joining the team, which will help given the large size of the building. Steve and Tango lead off the night checking out the balcony where the hanging occurred. As they are talking, the door behind them opened and then slammed shut- even though Steve had closed it. For the first time ever, the guys are speechless.

Jason and Grant are in the basement, and hear banging from upstairs and faint voices. They call out to Mumford as Grant picks up high K-2 readings. Then they see shadows that they can’t explain. Down in the jail, KJ and Amy try to figure out what’s making the noises they’re hearing. Amy thinks the camera crew is moving, but it turns out they weren’t there! So… who WAS that??

Even more crazy stuff occurs when Steve and Dave hear an untraceable clicking noise, and they try- without success to trace it to the elevator. (PS: Steve gets his arm jammed in the doors and let’s out a few howls!)

In the jails, Jason and Grant hear voices from above- just as Amy and Adam had. It’s like they’re emanating from between the second and third floors. They can’t track it down!

Chains, rustling and shuffling noises taunt Amy and Adam on the second floor, and Steve and Tango use a geophone (which picks up footstep vibrations) on the second floor. They see flashes of light glowing on the third floor- and then it disappears! THREE times! There was shuffling and movement, but there was NOTHING there and there weren’t even windows to generate the light! A genuine mystery. Steve is convinced it wasn’t a person. These guys are excited!

Evidence-wise, the recorders caught the footstep noises in the jail and a voice that appears to be saying “William”. As in Mumford. Awesome find!

Is the U.S. Mint in Louisiana haunted? There’s just not enough evidence to say it is for certain, but there is definitely something suspicious going on in this place.
