Episode 02 Week Two Performance - 28/03/2011 In the second week the couples will dance either the Quickstep or the Jive. Pairs, who have performed a Ballroom Dance last week will perform Latin and vice versa.
Week Two and the teams had to pick up the pace as they were dancing either the Jive or the Quickstep. And, after having had weeks to prepare their first dance, the teams had to adjust to only one week to learn this new dance. Also, for some, it was a test of bringing more sophistication to the ballroom, finding their inner "gentleman" or "lady." How would they all fare?
First out of the gate, Sugar Ray & Anna visibly improved over Week 1, with their Jive earning them 17 points, but the Judges felt the Sugar Ray's moves on the dance floor still needed refinement.
Kendra felt challenged during the rehearsals, as Louis pushed the tomboy to bring her inner lady to the dancefloor and to learn all the steps at the same time. The Quickstep performed by Kendra & Louis passed muster with 19 points.
It was a change of pace for the third dance of the night as Chelsea & Mark stepped it up with their out-of-the-box jive. Carrie Ann and Len didn't think it was jivey enough, while Bruno felt differently, remarking, "I actually liked the weird and wonderful side of it. It was like Marcel Marceau desperately seeking Lolita in A Clockwork Orange. They earned a mere 18 points from all three judges.
WWE Champ Chris Jericho was not enjoying being yelled at by his partner Cheryl during rehearsals as she emphasized the form he needed to execute the Quickstep. However, their work paid off in the ballroom as Chris & Cheryl's Quickstep was bright. How refreshing to see Chris nail those not-so-wrestley moves. 23 points!
Although Petra & Dmitry worked hard on calming Petra's nerves in making the slides and other moves required by the Jive, the pair missed the mark with their performance, only garnering 18 points.
The judges seemed cheerier seeing Kirstie & Maks' Quickstep — Carrie Ann commented, "You are such in your element. I like watching you dance. You're so aware of your body...the connection bewteen you and Maks is going to be unstoppable. Their scores were not as strong as week 1, earning them 20 points for the night.
Mike & Lacey had the most room for improvement, having landed at the bottom of the leaderboard in Week 1. Mike was determined to take criticism from Week 1 and turn it to motivation for week 2. The two hit the danceflloor for their Jive and Mike really shook it! His coworker Dr. Drew cheered him on in the audience too. Mike still has a lot of room to grow since this dance only got him 17 points.
As Kendra felt challenged to find her inner lady, Romeo struggled in rehearsals to find his inner Gentleman. Once Romeo & Chelsie hit the ballroom, they danced a stylish and spirited Quickstep. Len called it the best dance of the night and Bruno was impressed with Romeo's transitions from cheecky fun to sexy fool. The pair earned a total of 23 points.
Wendy & Tony was determined to improve after the harsh ciritques she received in week 1, and decided she was gonig to bring more Wendy to to table. In character as a couple, she and Tony made visible improvement in their Quickstep. And just in time. They earned 17 points from the judges.
Higher scorers of week 1 Ralph & Karina felt the pressure for their second week of Dancing. Ralph, fearful of embarassing his family, brought his two teen children to rehearsals to keep it real and let him know how he was was doing. Once the two hit the dancefloor, there was no holding them back in their high-energy jive. The judges were worried about the precision of it all, but the dance was fun enough to get a 21.
The second night ended with Hines & Kim. Their super-smooth Quickstep certainly was crowd-pleasing as the pair made great use of the entire dance floor. Their performance was also judge-pleasing — netting them a score of 23.
