Dancing with the Stars S12E05

Episode 05 Week Performance - 04/04/2011 It's personal story week on Dancing With The Stars! That means the stars will be taking on tunes that have a special meaning to them. Emotions are running high as the teams to take to the floor. Let's see what happens!

Wendy & Tony
Wendy wanted to do a number that paid tribute to how she got her start in the radio biz. She struggled for decades before finally reaching the pinnacle of her media career. Wendy & Tony also struggled a bit as they did the Foxtrot to "Last Night a DJ Saved My Life." The judges felt she took a step backwards and the 5-5-5 scores reflect that sentiment as they are left with a total of 15.

Chelsea & Mark
Chelsea's song, aptly named "Chelsea," was written for her by a young man named Brian. He performed it for her with his band and they started dating the next day. Aww. Chelsea and Mark's Cha Cha is all about the first time you fall in love. It was another high-energy dance from this dynamic duo. The 7-8-8 scores from the judges giving them a nice total of 23 for the night.

Chris & Cheryl
Chris can't hear the song "Let It Be" without thinking of his mother, who passed away in 2005. He promised to let the real him come out on the dance floor, as this dance is for a very special lady. With a framed picture of his mom nearby, Chris & Cheryl let loose with a very vulnerable Rumba. The judges had mixed reviews, but still though it was pretty good overall for a total of 21. If nothing else, this was an extremely heartfelt performance.

Kendra & Louis
Kendra picked "You and Me" as her song because of all the haters who came out after she married her hubby, Hank. This Rumba was all about following your heart. And Kendra & Louis did just that as they totally steamed up the ballroom. Their number was "hot, hot, hot" according to the judges who gave them a total of 23.

Romeo & Chelsie
Romeo lost two beloved cousins when he was younger. That's why his dance routine is all about love and loss. After a rough rehearsal in some high-heeled shoes, Romeo & Chelsie did an emotional dance to "I'll Be There." However, the Rumba was a bit rocky according to the judges. The 7-6-7 scores give them a total of 20 for the night.

Hines & Kim
Hines also picked a song to honor his hard-working mother. It's a big "thank you" for everything she's ever done for him. Mom is in the front row as Hines & Kym do a super-slick, super-smooth Samba to "Fantasy" by Earth, Wind and Fire. It rocked the house and got the highest total so far from the judges of 25. Needless to say, Mom was very proud.

Petra & Dmitry
Petra has seen others overcome great tragedy in her travels, so her routine is all about hope. Petra & Dmitry do a lovely Waltz to "You Raise Me Up" by Brian Kennedy. The judges were impressed enough to dole out 8-9-8 for their scores. Looks like Hines and Kym have company atop the leader board for the night!

Sugar Ray & Anna
You have to love the fact that Michael Buffer was in the house to deliver his classic "let's get ready to rumble" line. Of course, he subbed the phrase "Paso Doble" at the end of the intro. Sugar Ray & Anna did their dance to "My Prerogative." This was the tune that was playing before his great comeback fight. Even if it wasn't a knockout dance, the judges sure saw some improvement and gave them scores of 7, 6 and 7 for a 20 total.

Kirstie & Maks
Kirstie lost her mom and almost lost her dad due to a car accident that occurred right around the time she landed her first big movie role. Her dance is about hope following despair. Kirstie & Maks take a little spill early-on during their Rumba to "Over The Rainbow." The dancers were down, but not out. Kirstie and Maks picked themselves up off the floor for a fantastic finish. Judges gave them triple 7's. Can you say comeback?!

Ralph & Karina
Ralph's dance strived to pay tribute to those moments you hold special in your life. The song "Stay Gold" was in one of his first movies, The Outsiders. It's also the tune he and his wife chose as their wedding song. It's their anniversary this week, so this dance is for her. Ralph & Karina do a very sweet Rumba. Though it's met with mixed reviews from the judges, they still score a total of 21. The sweetest moment, however, came after the dance as Ralph kneeled down to kiss his wife on the hands. Stay gold, Ponyboy. Stay gold.

We saw some fine dancing and heard some touching, personal stories this night. But someone's story in the ballroom will be coming to an end soon as we find out who will stay to dance another day on the Results Show!
