Episode 10 - The Same Old You (08/12/2010)
There’s a PGA tournament coming to Sarasota. Bobby’s friends think he should enter the competition. Andy says, “Bobby ‘Batman’ Cobb, we believe in you.” This is part of a little thing they do where they pretend Bobby’s middle name is Batman and Andy’s is Robin. Jules tries to convince her ex-hubby to go for it on the golf course. Will Bobby Cobb answer the bat signal?
Jules calls for a gathering of “the drink tank think tank” to figure out a way to get Bobby’s confidence back so he’ll enter the tourney. White wine is the beverage of choice because it has less alcohol. Grayson refers to it as “thinking wine.” Jules believes that Bobby might feel better about himself if he had a real place to live. Her slogan is “get ahead, get a home.” Looks like it’s time for Extreme Makeover: Boat Edition!
To keep Bobby occupied during the renovation, Travis dares him to eat a huge tub of cheesy popcorn. Meanwhile, back on the boat, Jules tries to make the makeover more fun by acting as if all the hard work is part of an ‘80’s movie montage. She even plays the always rockin’ tunes of Katrina and the Waves. Make that “tune,” singular. We can’t think of anything they did other than Walking on Sunshine. Time to feel good!
The gang does a great job on the boat. It looks seaworthy enough to drop into the marina. Sadly, looks can be deceiving. Bobby’s boat promptly sinks to the bottom of the ocean. His friends try to salvage whatever items float to the surface. Well, Ellie doesn’t. She does supervise though, which is nice.
Jules apologizes to Bobby for destroying his home. Still, she knows he’ll be okay. A few years ago, a sunken boat would have sunk Bobby, too. He’s a different guy now. He has that same confidence that made Jules fall in love with him. He also has a pretty good golf game. Actually, it’s better than good when Bobby sinks a putt that qualifies him for the tournament. As you may have guessed, his friends are right there cheering him on at the green.
Ellie does an Internet search to learn more about Grayson’s mysterious past. What she uncovers may surprise you. Oh, relax. It’s nothing that’ll put the guy on 20/20. It may end up on America’s Funniest Home Videos though. As it turns out, Grayson spent some time on the pageant circuit as a kid. There’s a video of him competing for the title of Little Mr. Miami. The kid broke barriers.
Grayson strikes back with an incriminating search of his own. The photo of Ellie with bushy eyebrows is just the beginning. Retaliation comes in the form of a Hot Florida Bartenders calendar featuring the G-man in a g-string. The two call a truce before we get to see Ellie’s Real World audition tape. Ellie says, “This is what friendship means to me. Having so much crap on someone that they can’t ever reveal the crap they have on you.” She and Grayson have never been closer.
Travis and Kirsten catch Laurie holding court at a sorority party. Initially, Laurie had broken into the house to steal some hair scrunchies. But the sorority girls grew to love her, so she said she was a transfer student from Florida State. It’s done wonders for Laurie’s self-esteem since the girls all look up to her. But Kirsten’s self-confidence could use a little boost when she sees how flirty Laurie and Travis are with each other.
When Bobby suggests that Kirsten is jealous, Travis and Laurie laugh it off. After all, the idea of them as a couple is ridiculous. Isn’t it? There’s a moment where these two don’t look so sure. The moment ends when Kirsten comes in. Laurie says she’ll take Trav’s suggestion (which is a suggestion he never really offered) and leave the sorority so she won’t interfere with the legit college life he and Kirsten share. Kirsten is thrilled, but Travis doesn’t look quite as enthusiastic.
