Episode 26 - The Top 8 Finalists Perform (13/04/2011)

Grab your popcorn, we're going to the movies! Speaking of which, I'm currently sitting alone at my desk writing this recap and the wind is making the building creak and the overhead lights near my desk just turned off. I think I need to stop watching horror movies. On to the show!

PEOPLE listed Jennifer Lopez as their Most Beautiful Person of 2011, and I don't think any of us would disagree! She's stunning and radiates from the judges table...even in hi-def!

Paul McDonald kicked off the night with a lot of energy in his signature suit of roses and he played the tambourine. Judge Jennifer compared his "Old Time Rock and Roll" performance to a diamond in the rough that keeps getting more polished. Lauren Alaina could relate to Miley Cyrus' "The Climb" from "Hannah Montana." The World's Most Beautiful Woman in 2011, Jennifer Lopez, said that Lauren sang it beautifully. Stefano Langone sang Boyz II Men's "End Of The Road" from "Boomerang." Steven Tyler said that Stefano proved himself with this performance and told him, "This is so not the end of the road for you; it's just the beginning." Appropriately, Scotty McCreery sang "I Cross My Heart" from the movie "Pure Country." Randy noticed growth in Scotty and cheered, "A star is born on this stage!"

Casey Abrams got jazzy with "Nature Boy" from "Moulin Rouge!" His performance touched Randy Jackson, who said this brilliant performance made him proud to sit here and judge artists as well as pop stars. Haley Reinhart's movie pick was "Call Me" from "American Gigolo." Idol Judge Steven Tyler said, "You sang it heavy; you sang it great." He also liked her colorful frock. Jacob Lusk tackled the Simon & Garfunkel song from "The Pursuit of Happyness." After Jacob's performance, Steven exclaimed, "Holy sheesizzles!" and said it's phenomenal how much Jacob puts into his songs. James Durbin closed the night on a high note--literally! He sang "Heavy Metal" from the movie with the same name, and Randy called James' performance "Unbelievable."

I'm going to escape the horror-film-waiting-to-happen and head home from work. Check back soon for my full, detailed recap...and to make sure I escaped the office unscathed.

Here's the song list to hold you over:
