Episode 28 - The Top 7 Finalists Perform (20/04/2011)
The lucky seven finalists performed songs from the 21st century on Wednesday night's performance show. It was great to have the eliminated six finalists return to the stage to perform Pink's "So What." After their performance, Steven Tyler said, "You just made America feel bad about their decision." Before each finalist's performance, we got to hear about what their fellow Idol friends think of them, which led to some spot-on impressions!
Singing "Swingin'," Scotty McCreery kicked off the night with the LeAnn Rimes song. The judges love his voice, but they're ready for Scotty to make some choices that aren't as safe. James Durbin brought Muse to American Idol with "Uprising," and it was an amusing performance with drums and high notes. The judges made an early prediction that this would be the best performance of the night. Haley Reinhart took on the very new and very popular song, "Rolling In The Deep," by Adele. Randy Jackson thought this was the perfect song choice for her, and he said both Adele and Haley have "that amazing thing" to their voices. Jacob Lusk had an emotional moment with Luther Vandross' "Dance With My Father." Steven Tyler stated, "You remind me of the reason why I love music."
Casey Abrams rocked out on the guitar to his 21st Century song selection, Maroon 5's "Harder To Breathe." He ended his performance by kissing Jennifer Lopez, who loved that he brought all of his "Casey-isms" to the performance. Stefano Langone channeled Ne-Yo for his performance of "Closer." He busted some moves, and Randy loved that Stefano took his time with the song's verses. Lauren Alaina closed out the night with "Born To Fly" by Sara Evans. Jennifer Lopez told her, "Beautiful things come out in your notes," and she encouraged Lauren to push it further.
Who goes home? Who do you love? Talk about it in the Idol forums as I work on my full recap. Check back here soon to read the whole schebang.
